{"id":6063,"date":"2011-02-21T12:00:31","date_gmt":"2011-02-21T17:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=6063"},"modified":"2011-02-18T15:05:38","modified_gmt":"2011-02-18T20:05:38","slug":"clarion-consensus-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2011\/02\/21\/clarion-consensus-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Clarion Consensus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you ready for spring and summer?<em> The Clarion<\/em> is.\u00a0 We can tolerate the snow and ice of winter for a little while, but by Valentine\u2019s Day, we\u2019ve just had enough.<\/p>\n<p>The frigid temperatures, the wind biting at your neck, cheeks and hands and the slush that coats the roads of our cities all combine to make winter a generally miserable time.\u00a0 We do realize that some of you enjoy this stuff, and to be fair, we don\u2019t understand you.\u00a0 Sorry.<\/p>\n<p>Who enjoys waking up to the thermometer reading 1 degree?\u00a0 Seriously.\u00a0 Send us an e-mail (<a href=\"mailto:clarion@sinclair.edu\">clarion@sinclair.edu<\/a>) and tell us if you enjoy that.\u00a0\u00a0 As children, most of us would agree with you.\u00a0 Building snowmen and snow angels was fun, for sure.\u00a0 And we do remember snow ball fights.<\/p>\n<p>But that was, in some cases, over 10 years ago for us.\u00a0 We\u2019re past that now.\u00a0 We\u2019re all summer people here at <em>the Clarion<\/em>.\u00a0 We want sunshine, shorts, lemonades and barbeques.\u00a0 We want baseball, swimming pools and palm trees.\u00a0 Summer just feels like such a happier time.\u00a0 Winter?\u00a0 Dreary and miserable.<\/p>\n<p>We once read that ancient Romans intentionally placed more holidays in the winter months of their calendar.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because they had no electricity and with it being dark most of the time, the winter could really be a drag.\u00a0 So, voila, add in some holidays to spice things up.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it.\u00a0 We go from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Year\u2019s in the span of a few months.\u00a0 It spices things up, no?\u00a0 We find ourselves getting excited about Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.\u00a0 With it cold, dark and snowy outside, that\u2019s all we have to be excited for.<\/p>\n<p>In May or June, getting up and seeing the sun is enough.\u00a0 We personally think, knowing that you could go to a pool, walk down the street, play catch in the backyard or wash your car without the threat of frostbite is pretty nice.<\/p>\n<p>It won\u2019t be long before the bulky jackets, scarves and gloves are put away.\u00a0 Flip flops, cargo shorts and sunglasses will be back and it\u2019ll finally be nice to go outside again.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, just as soon as we say that, Ohio\u2019s weather will change and we\u2019ll be right back where we started.\u00a0 Can we just fast forward to June, please?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you ready for spring and summer?
