{"id":5739,"date":"2010-11-08T12:00:38","date_gmt":"2010-11-08T17:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=5739"},"modified":"2010-11-05T11:35:58","modified_gmt":"2010-11-05T16:35:58","slug":"food-services-has-charitable-events-going-on-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2010\/11\/08\/food-services-has-charitable-events-going-on-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Services has charitable events going on now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College\u2019s Food Services department is trying to do things to help the community, according to Tim Sweet, director of food services.<\/p>\n<p>One current initiative is called \u2018OneSight\u2019, and has existed for over 20 years, according to their website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re collecting used eyeglasses for the underprivileged,\u201d Sweet said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s run by Luxottica, which is another Aramark account.\u00a0 I was just talking to them one day and I told them, \u2018I bet we could help ya\u2019 and that\u2019s how we got started on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone at Sinclair can drop off an old pair of eyeglasses into one of the OneSight boxes.\u00a0 The boxes are in various department offices, including the food services office in Building 7 Room 033.\u00a0 Sweet said he\u2019d like for all of the departments at Sinclair to have collection boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Sweet said the program has been running for a month and he said he thinks they\u2019ve collected about 80 pairs.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not the only thing food services is doing, though, according to Sweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe start Nov. 1 our adopt-a-family program,\u201d Sweet said.\u00a0 \u201cIt runs through Thanksgiving and we like to start it early because the students are mostly out by December.\u00a0 So we work on it the whole month of November, and we\u2019re doing it this year for students in need at Sinclair that have been recommended by faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trees went up Oct. 29.\u00a0 Sweet said anyone who wants to donate gifts only need to bring back an unwrapped gift to a food service location with the tag on the gift.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great program, and all we do is put the tags on the tree,\u201d Sweet said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s the people in the school, the students, the faculty, the staff they really do the whole program.\u00a0 It\u2019s such a great thing.\u00a0 I have people asking me all the time, \u2018are you going to be doing that again\u2019 because they want to help out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you give people a chance to help other people they always come through for you,\u201d Sweet said.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s the great thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sweet said he thinks the record for families helped in the program is 123 one year.\u00a0 All the donations come from people at Sinclair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College\u2019s Food Services department is trying to do things to help the community, according to Tim Sweet, director of food services.
