A domestic violence victim can be a fellow student, a faculty member or a staff member at Sinclair Community College.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Student Leadership Association (SLA) is holding Domestic Violence Awareness Day on Oct. 13 on the stage area in Building 8 Basement level from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe awareness day is intended to educate the student body, faculty and staff at Sinclair about domestic violence,\u201d said Jayne Nelson, event planner of the SLA. \u201cAnyone at any point could become a victim of domestic violence, that\u2019s why we are trying to bring awareness to the Sinclair community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The awareness day will feature several speakers from local area agencies that help victims of domestic violence, as well as a speaker who is a survivor of this brutal behavior. Daybreak and YMCA are among local agencies that will have a reception table with information about domestic violence prevention and the different services they provide to victims of the crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people do not know what domestic violence is. Domestic violence in any shape or form is wrong,\u201d said Nelson. \u201cSLA\u2019s Domestic Violence Awareness Day will educate the student body, faculty and staff on ways to help identify domestic violence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Because October is domestic violence awareness month, SLA wants to inform the Sinclair community that domestic violence can be prevented.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes domestic violence victims do not know how to deal with the situation because they do not want to cause trouble to their loved one. This day is to tell them that domestic violence is not acceptable, even though, they might have grown up with it,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n
Victims of domestic violence have several avenues they can take at Sinclair. They can go to the counseling services on campus, Sinclair police, the Dayton police department or even someone they trust, according to Nelson.<\/p>\n
