There are only eight players of the week awards given during the volleyball season and Sinclair Community College\u2019s Desiree Brown earned it for the week of Oct. 6.<\/span><\/p>\n K.C. Gan, the coach of Sinclair\u2019s volleyball team says Desiree is a good player that has worked hard and showed a lot of growth throughout the season.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cDesiree gives a lot of effort and always gives her all,\u201d Gan said. \u201cThere are only eight weeks in a season, and for her to win the award is an honor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brown is very happy and surprised to know she was recognized, but at the same time knows that she has a lot of work to put forward to become the player she wants to be.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTo win this award is great, but it also serves as extra motivation,\u201d said Brown. \u201cI know I can become a better player and I will continue to work hard so I can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n During the week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 Sinclair played in three matches. Although they lost two of the, Brown accumulated 28 kills, 27 digs, 12 blocks, 11 aces and one assist.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe is an outstanding attacker who is strong and has a good vertical,\u201d said Gan. \u201cOne of my most competitive players, she seems to rise her game to the challenge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brown knows that although this is an individual honor, the team always comes first and she could not of won without them.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cVolleyball is a team sport, so without their support this would not of been possible,\u201d said Brown.<\/span><\/p>\n Also a softball player for 13 years, Brown first became interested in volleyball when she was in middle school.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cVolleyball looked interesting so I just decided to try it,\u201d said Brown. \u201cI just became attached to it, I love the intensity of volleyball. You don\u2019t get that in every sport.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brown, who played both volleyball and softball for Tri-County North High School, said she was thinking about playing softball for Sinclair before coach Gan approached her.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCoach approached me about playing volleyball with a plan in place,\u201d said Brown. \u201cI came to some of the volleyball open gyms and really enjoyed myself. It is a great environment and I had a good time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brown said that at the beginning of the season she had to adjust to the better talent that college has over high school.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cComing directly from high school, you can really see a difference in the players,\u201d said Brown. \u201cThe competition is faster and stronger. I had to become accustomed to that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Although the Volleyball team does not have the best record, Brown knows that the team can do better.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe have a lot of talent on this team, and we\u2019re a lot better than what our record says,\u201d Brown said. \u201cAlthough I won this award I don\u2019t see myself as the best player on the team, and to see the other girls play motivates me to become good as they are.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n But throughout this season of growth Brown see this as a stepping-stone for not only her but the team as well.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI know I can become better, but as a said before volleyball is a team sport,\u201d Brown said. \u201cSo we will all work harder and put forth the effort to become a very good team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" There are only eight players of the week awards given during the volleyball season and Sinclair Community College\u2019s Desiree Brown earned it for the week of Oct. 6.
