When I first got to Sinclair Community College, I had the mindset that many students have, I just wanted to get my work done and get out.<\/p>\n
Through my brief time writing for the paper and journalism classes I was able to see multiple opportunities available for students at Sinclair. There are more than 30 clubs to join and many activities made available for students. The one thing I regret missing out on is the honors program.<\/p>\n
When I was working on a story for the honors program earlier in the year, I realized what a great opportunity I had missed.<\/p>\n
All you need to take a class for honors is a 2.8 grade point average and a little extra work. Through the honors program, many scholarships are available to students for multiple schools. If you push yourself even harder you can become an honors scholar with even more scholarships available.<\/p>\n
Another organization I regret not joining is Phi Theta Kappa. I received many e-mails from the club but dismissed them as just some community college group. Phi Theta Kappa is another honors society that pushes students academically and helps them financially.<\/p>\n
The lesson that I have learned too late at Sinclair is that you have to be active to find these opportunities. You have to seek out these things because they won\u2019t come find you.<\/p>\n
Instead of dismissing the Phi Theta Kappa e-mails, you should look into them. Instead of wondering what clubs are available, look them up on the website. Talk to faculty to see what activities are available at Sinclair.<\/p>\n
The mindset that this is just community college can be dangerous. You could miss out on all the opportunities available to you and leave with regrets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
