Spring Fling is taking Sinclair Community College to the Hollywood Oscars on May 12.\u00a0 This year, though, the event is staying in Building 8, according to Student Leadership Advisor <\/strong>Karen Williams.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormally we have it outside, but this year we planned on having it on the inside because we were unsure how the weather was going to be,\u201d Williams said.\u00a0 \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to make any last minute changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Games, student club videos and a fashion show will be featured during the event.\u00a0 Oscar-themed activities include free costume photography, free portraits by a charcoal artist, a dance by the Rowdy Tartan Cheerleaders and a special surprise guest entertainer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know when you have Oscars you have to have a little entertainment,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>\n

In keeping with the Hollywood Oscars theme, students will also be able to vote for their favorite athlete, food on campus and other categories.\u00a0 Winner and first runner up in each category will receive an Oscar-themed award.<\/p>\n

Hosting the event will be Sinclair alumnus Jody Coleman from The Jody Coleman Show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to see his talk show, and he does very well,\u201d Williams said.\u00a0 \u201cI asked him to become our emcee, and he was happy to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams said volunteers are still needed to help with the event.\u00a0 Food for staff, performers and other event workers will be provided, and volunteers will be given \u201cSLA Event Staff\u201d t-shirts to wear for the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking for volunteers,\u201d Williams said.\u00a0 \u201cIt can be a half-hour, hour, and it can be a variety of things they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spring Fling will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Building 8.\u00a0 Games will be upstairs in the gym; other activities will be held in the Student Activities Center.\u00a0 For more information contact the Student Leadership Association at 512-2509 or stop by their office in Building 8 Room 025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
