Free blood pressure screenings are being offered in the Library. Nursing students give screenings, as well as give out information on ways to improve health.<\/p>\n

“We provide a variety of information for the public, like where they can find medical providers for reasonable costs and other information as far as diet, exercise, stress,” said nursing student, Misty Mitchell.<\/p>\n

The free blood pressure screenings are done by the Wellness Resource Center through Service Learning.<\/p>\n

“It’s preventative health care. People need to know what their blood pressure is so they can seek treatment because the earlier, [the better].<\/p>\n

Nursing student Leanne Davidson said that diet and exercise can help prevent high blood pressure. She also said that there’s medication that can control blood pressure.<\/p>\n

Davidson said about 50 to 60 people visit the station each day and a number of them are “repeats.”<\/p>\n

Davidson and Mitchell said the “repeats” usually come back to keep track of their blood pressure on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

Free blood pressure screenings will be held Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the remainder of this quarter.<\/p>\n
