Every educational institution relies on strong leadership to manage its departments, programs and overall operations; Sinclair College<\/a> is no exception.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Sinclair selected Dr. Rena Sebor as its new senior vice president and provost, who is the former dean of health sciences<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sebor has been with Sinclair for 25 years. She started as a faculty member in 2000, where she taught dental hygiene before becoming the chair of dental health sciences in 2003 and then becoming the dean of health sciences in 2011.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am from Columbus originally; I have taught as an instructor at Ohio State University<\/a>. Both of my bachelor\u2019s degree and my master\u2019s degree are from Ohio State. I taught at the University of Louisiana and I came to Sinclair,\u201d Sebor said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Since childhood, Sebor has been interested in health science, particularly dental hygiene, and has worked as a dental hygienist for many years. Once she became a faculty member and began to discover her strengths, she realized that she enjoys administrative work, department operations, and leadership.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA leadership and management role drove me towards the department chair and then eventually the dean, and now, the provost, which are all the same position. It just gets into a bigger umbrella of how many areas you oversee,\u201d Sebor said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To those who do not know what or who the provost is, Sebor describes a provost as one in charge of all academic affairs. As provost, Sebor is responsible for maintaining academic quality and integrity, supporting faculty and aligning programs with Sinclair\u2019s mission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The provost works closely with deans, who collaborate with department chairs, faculty and staff within their respective divisions, ensuring that the needs and goals of different academic areas are met.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs provost, my goals are to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where all faculty and staff feel heard, valued, and respected,\u201d Sebor said <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that advancing Sinclair\u2019s strategic priorities\u2014such as leveraging artificial intelligence, improving career outcomes and boosting student retention\u2014are also key focuses of her leadership. Her goals are for Sinclair to remain the college of choice within the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the new provost, Sebor intends to differentiate herself from her predecessors by leading with a forward-thinking, data-informed approach that embraces innovation while remaining grounded in equity and student success.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI intend to foster a culture of collaboration, transparency and continuous improvement\u2013amplifying the voices of faculty, staff and students in institutional decision-making,\u201d Sebor said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To students, Sebor encourages them to seek out leadership opportunities early and often, whether through student organizations, volunteer roles or internships. Leadership is not about holding a title; it\u2019s about learning to listen, collaborate and act with integrity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone or take on challenges that stretch your abilities. Surround yourself with mentors who inspire you, be open to feedback and remember that true leadership is rooted in service. Most importantly, lead with purpose and authenticity,\u201d Sebor said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
