DAYTON, Ohio, May 22- Sinclair College hosted their Annual Walk of Remembrance. This is done yearly in an act of paying homage to America’s fallen soldiers in observance of Memorial Day.

The United States is a country built on military force. The reason the U.S. is not currently a part of the U.K. is because citizens took up arms to fight for their freedoms. Due to this, veterans are among the most respected individuals in American society.

One of the ways this respect manifests is in the form of Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a national holiday established to remember the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Sinclair has joined in with a celebration of their own. The Military Family Education Center set up a kiosk in front of the entrance of Building 10. Here students would find people to explain the event. This entailed a walk around the campus accompanied by music and the stories of lost veterans.

Unfortunately, there were not many students that showed up, but still there were individuals that decided to partake.

The entire point of the event is to remember those who have lost their lives in the protection of our rights; Brandon Harvey shares this sentiment wholeheartedly. He spoke on the importance of Memorial Day and this event.

“It means everything because we’ve had fallen soldiers that fought for our freedoms and our rights as a country and it’s made it made our country united,” Harvey said.

To Harvey, the event doesn’t just have symbolic value, but it also has a personal impact as well.

“This is like an important thing that we do just to remember their sacrifice and remember the sacrifices of future soldiers,” Harvey said.

The weather was not the best for a walk. The cold made the prospect unappealing to most students, even though there was a route inside the buildings. Even still, Sinclair made an effort to respect our fallen veterans.

We show our respect to the fallen in various ways, some through quiet and solitary contemplation, and others through walks of remembrance.

The brave men and women who carried the nation on their backs to the last breath deserve the utmost respect and for their memories to live on; Memorial day gives the living a chance to do just this.
