{"id":4085,"date":"2010-02-11T13:40:31","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T18:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/?p=4085"},"modified":"2017-06-22T11:02:50","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T16:02:50","slug":"week-3-taking-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2010\/02\/11\/week-3-taking-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 3: Taking action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve made a decision to improve my health.\u00a0 I\u2019ve set some reasonable goals.\u00a0 Now I need to take some action steps.<\/p>\n<p>Some of my goals have easy action steps, like regularly attending an exercise class at the gym.\u00a0 However, some of them are more difficult for me to figure out, like finding healthy snacks.\u00a0 I think the easiest thing to do is to list out my goals again and put some details with them.\u00a0 Whenever I look at my goals, I\u2019ll have a clear action plan already listed with each one.\u00a0 So here we go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Track what I eat and when I exercise<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I took a closer look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sparkpeople.com\" target=\"_blank\">sparkpeople.com<\/a>, and I think I\u2019m going to use this site to track my activities.\u00a0 They have a great setup for tracking meals, water intake, exercise, pounds and more.\u00a0 As long as I log in at least once a day, it should be fairly easy to keep up with my tracking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regularly attend a group exercise class at the gym<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I discovered a free Zumba class at my gym.\u00a0 It both frightens and delights me.\u00a0 True, an aerobic dance class is really just a way to discover everything you hate about your body, but it\u2019s also a great way to exercise for an hour without realizing it.\u00a0 The class meets twice a week, leaving me just one day to fill with other physical activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find healthy snacks that will satisfy my need for crunchy, salty, sweet and filling foods between meals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the hard one for me.\u00a0 I love to snack; it\u2019s a part of my natures.\u00a0 I\u2019ve tried to overcome it by eating 100 calorie snack packs (not satisfying), fruits and vegetables (not filling) and low-fat granola bars (both unsatisfying <em>and<\/em> unfilling), but I just can\u2019t get the hang of healthy snacking.\u00a0 So I\u2019m going to check out <a href=\"http:\/\/health.yahoo.com\/experts\/eatthis\/bio\/zinczenko-goulding\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding<\/a>, best known for \u201cEat This, No That.\u201d\u00a0 I think I\u2019ll search for some other health blogs, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pack my lunch when I can\u2019t eat at home<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is another hard one for me.\u00a0 I don\u2019t enjoy eating the same thing over and over again, and that\u2019s what I\u2019m afraid of when I pack my lunch.\u00a0 I can only eat so many frozen meals, sandwiches or soups before I get bored.\u00a0 To tackle this problem I\u2019m going to sit down and make a weekly lunch menu.\u00a0 Then I can decide how bored I will or will not get with lunch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lose 25 pounds before I graduate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While this is a separate goal, I\u2019m pretty sure that if I keep my other four goals, I\u2019ll keep my fifth goal.\u00a0 However, there are some things I can do to boost my chances.\u00a0 I can replace at least two sodas per day with sugar-free flavored water mixes and take the long way every time I walk across campus.<\/p>\n<p>If I can do these things, I bet I can do anything.<\/p>\n<p>Next week: Motivation<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve made a decision to improve my health.\u00a0 I\u2019ve set some reasonable goals.\u00a0 Now I need to take some action steps.
