Another major spin-off from the mind of legendary author George R.R. Martin<\/a> is due to hit the silver screen next year according to a recent post by the wordsmith himself. The show, \u2018A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/a>\u2019, is based on some of Martin\u2019s shorter work set<\/a> in a Westeros still reeling from the loss of its dragons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a post<\/a> shared on his official website, Martin revealed that the show has already begun filming and would be six episodes long. Instead of depicting the Dance of the Dragons or the War of the Five Kings, this series will follow the legendary exploits of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFilming started last week in Belfast, Northern Ireland,\u201d he wrote. \u201c Only six episodes for this one.\u00a0 A novella is considerably shorter than a novel (particularly one of my novels), so there\u2019s less source material.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

The series is based on Martin\u2019s novella \u2018The Hedge Knight<\/a>\u2019 which was originally published in 1998 as part of Voyager Books \u2018Legends Anthology\u2019. Its characters would quickly become firm favorites with fans around the world. Since then, two other novellas depicting the adventures of Dunk and Egg have been released. All three tales would eventually be collected in the best-selling 2015 collection \u2018A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A star-studded cast has been revealed by HBO for the new series. Peter Claffey<\/a> will play Duncan the Tall whilst co-star Dexter Sol Ansell<\/a> has been cast as Egg. Finn Bennet<\/a> is due to portray Aerion Brightflame, Tony Award-winner Bertie Carvel<\/a> has signed up to play Baelor Breakspear, whilst Daniel Ings<\/a> is scheduled to bring \u2018the Laughing Storm\u2019 Lyonel Baratheon to life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things look highly promising for Martin\u2019s fans who are currently enjoying a second helping of Targaryen madness in HBO\u2019s \u2018House of the Dragon<\/a>.\u2019 Even before its third episode aired the show was renewed for a third season. Alongside Dunk and the hotly anticipated next novel in the \u2018A Song of Ice and Fire\u2019 series, the world will have plenty to look forward even after the Reds and Greens put down their swords this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
