This ceremony was held in Building 12 on April 15, 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, the winners of the Spectrum Awards for Excellence in Student Writing were announced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winner for the Expository Essay category was Joseph Smith, whose work was titled: \u201cTrauma in Advertising: When Is It OK?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winner for Research Essay was Anna Bolha and their essay titled: \u201cBehind the Scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Literature Essay category winner was Kara Gardner\u2019s \u201cClass Differences and Exploitation in \u2018Apollo\u2019 and \u2018Barn Burning.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, the Creative Writing Contest Winners were awarded. The categories included prizes in poetry, non-fiction and fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners of the poetry, high school category were: In first place, \u201cWhat Is Missing?\u201d by Dana Holloway. In second place, \u201cI am From\u201d by Erin Moler. In third place, \u201cITL Poem\u201d by Alexis Holsey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These were winners of the poetry, adult category: In first place, \u201cWho Am I? Quien soy?\u201d by Minnie Almader. In second place, \u201cThoughts in Water, Feelings on Sand\u201d by Madelyn Fischer. In third place, \u201cI Will Be\u201d by Mycah Kyles Stewart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high school non-fiction winners were: In first place, \u201cExperience Equals Growth\u201d by Charlotte Higgins. In second place, \u201cKT Tape\u201d by Greta Moore. In third place, \u201cThis I Believe\u201d by Carilyse Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, the adult non-fiction winners were: In first place, \u201cA Black Girl\u2019s Reality\u201d by Naviyah Martin. In second place, \u201cThe Sun and the Moon\u201d by Cecile Darling. In third place, \u201cAn Essay on Exploding Toilets and The Super Scientific Phases of Falling in Love\u201d by Macey Heys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the fiction category, the high school winners were: In first place, \u201cThe Beast from the Trenches\u201d by Brayden McDaniel. In second place, \u201cFriendly Fire\u201d by Alexis Holsey. In second place, \u201cMeeting Time\u201d by Rhonda Havig. In third place, \u201cThe Bounty of Rob Wilkinson\u201d by Andy Gibson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gary Mitchner Prize for Formal Poetry winners were \u201cMy Future\u201d by Katrina Walling and \u201cA Good Man\u201d by Ariella Hardin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deanna Pickard Poetry Prize was awarded to Katie Bostick for their poem \u201cPorches\u201d and Ismael David Mujahid for their poem titled \u201cNew Babylon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poets\/paul-laurence-dunbar\">Paul Laurence Dunbar<\/a> Poetry Prize has several categories including middle school, high school and adult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the middle school category, the prize was awarded to \u201cWhere I\u2019m From\u201d by Lily Hendricks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the high school category, the winners were \u201cBodies Passing for Ships in the Night\u201d by Hannah Ahn and \u201cTree Frogs\u201d by Erin Kelly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the adult category, the prize was awarded to \u201cInebriated\u201d by Macey Heys<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, League for Innovation winners were announced. In the personal essay category, Macey Heys. In the poetry category, Katie Bostick. And for the short story category, Dylan Ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, Outstanding English Major was Christopher West. Outstanding Creative Writing Major was Elisabeth Brynildsen and Macey Heys. Outstanding ELL Major was Gabriella Prado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To end the night, winners, faculty, and guests were invited to casually perform a favorite piece or their very own work.
