{"id":3708,"date":"2010-01-11T12:04:07","date_gmt":"2010-01-11T17:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/?p=3708"},"modified":"2017-06-22T10:43:44","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T15:43:44","slug":"my-sinclair-gets-a-makeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2010\/01\/11\/my-sinclair-gets-a-makeover\/","title":{"rendered":"My.Sinclair gets a makeover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"my.sinclair.edu\" href=\"http:\/\/my.sinclair.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">My.Sinclair<\/a> got a new look over the winter break.<\/p>\n<p>The three major functions, Angel, WebAdvisor and e-mail, are more prominently featured on the home page and have an icon to let students know if the services are available, according to Russ Little, Web Systems Manager for Sinclair Community College.\u00a0 The home page also features news, events, and links to other resources organized by experience, services, support and college.<\/p>\n<p>Culinary Arts student Katie Hill thinks the new format is more streamlined and organized than before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the design more, but it keeps going down at the beginning of the quarter, so I\u2019ll decide (if I like it) when everything gets stable,\u201d Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>Student Jed Bettelon said the usability is comparable to the previous version, but technical difficulties make it difficult to access sometimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they should\u2019ve changed (the system) in the summer time,\u201d Bettelon said.<\/p>\n<p>Little said the decision to update the system over winter break corresponded with the longest time the school did not have active courses, making a week-long overhaul possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDecisions to upgrade learning related systems are always made in conjunction with the Academic Division and they have (the) final say on dates, based on information, input and feedback from many sources,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThe intent is always to impact the fewest users while allowing us to continue to progress in a timely manner with current technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little also said that technology difficulties may partly result from my.Sinclair and Angel being two different systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile students often think of them as a single thing, they are different technologies and have different technology challenges,\u201d Little said.<\/p>\n<p>English major Mike Payne likes the system so far, but he gets frustrated accessing his online classes sometimes.\u00a0 He thinks difficulties are to be expected at the beginning of the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t had to put my password in more than once (to log in), and that\u2019s key to me,\u201d Payne said.<\/p>\n<p>The portal was a collaborative project between the Academic Quality Improvement Program eServices Team, eMarketing and Web Systems at Sinclair, according to Little.\u00a0 Students with technology related issues should call the Help Desk at (937) 512-4357 or e-mail at helpdesk@sinclair.edu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My.Sinclair got a new look over the winter break.
