Whether through its food drives or other services, the Food Pantry aims to use an influx of new supporters to continue helping students in need.

Organized under the Counseling Department, the pantry began serving members of the Sinclair community during the pandemic. Through initiatives such as Lunchtime Hunger, they’ve managed to build a strong track record of providing nutritious meals free of charge. Going beyond sustenance, the pantry also provides hygiene products and baby supplies, no questions asked. To benefit from the department’s great work, individuals need only be enrolled at the college.

Julia North, Coordinator of Case Management in the Counseling Department, said, “We started small at the height of COVID. We operated as a drive-thru where students could order a box and Sinclair staff loaded food boxes in student’s cars.”

“Volunteers are a pivotal part of the pantry’s ability to function at its current level,” North added. “More students are aware of the pantry, and we are busier than ever so volunteers are always welcome.”

Joining the pantry is about a lot more than food. Volunteers are needed to categorize inventory, unload trucks, for front desk work, among other roles. Interested parties can contact North at julia.north@sinclair.edu to learn how they can contribute.

In addition to planning an extension of the Lunchtime Hunger program to Sinclair’s regional centers, North also announced that a full time Social Worker and part time Case Manager have been hired. The pair have joined the Sinclair community to offer a whole host of services to help students in their educational journey.

“Case Managers help students reach their educational goals by connecting students to on campus and community resources like financial, transportation, housing insecurity and other resources,” said North.

With more individualized support for students, Sinclair’s Counseling Department will be able to help deliver housing, transportation, and financial assistance solutions. To learn more, students can visit the department at Room 424 of Building 10 or call 937-512-3032.

Ismael Mujahid

Staff writer/Associate editor

Sinclair’s Food Pantry has issued an open call for student volunteers.
