Next month, Sinclair Community College is welcoming student-delegates to The Dayton Model United Nations Conference (DAYMUNC). DAYMUNC will be held from Feb. 3-4 with a total of 90 students from 5 different colleges: Sinclair College, Wright State University<\/a>, University of Dayton<\/a>, Cedarville University<\/a>, and University of Mount Union<\/a>. This year marks the 30th anniversary of DAYMUNC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference is led by students that represent a country. They spend months researching the ins and outs of their country. At the convention, they discuss a wide range of world issues such as sustainability and human rights and attempt to negotiate with other countries to create solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DAYMUNC tries to make the event as realistic as possible to the National Model United Nations<\/a> by following similar rules and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the event, students can embody the role of a diplomat. The delegates have the independence and knowledge to lead the event, but they can ask for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students attending the event get experience with public speaking, diplomacy, negotiation and learning about other cultures. Since all countries have diverse rules, students can think of society in a new way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students also learn how to do effective research and apply it to real-world situations. A lack of research could negatively impact their country and the core beliefs it was built upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Model UN events are held all over the world, but DAYMUNC is one of a kind. It is one of two events like this in Ohio and the only American collegiate conference sponsored by a community college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a two-day event that will be held in the building 12 Conference Center. The conference begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 and lasts all day Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
