{"id":3318,"date":"2009-11-09T14:35:11","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T19:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/?p=3318"},"modified":"2017-06-22T10:29:59","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T15:29:59","slug":"art-galleries-decorate-4th-floor-of-building-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2009\/11\/09\/art-galleries-decorate-4th-floor-of-building-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Art galleries decorate 4th floor of building 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Interested in viewing art?<\/p>\n<p>Open to the public, the Burnell Roberts Triangle Gallery and the Zone VI Photography Gallery \u2013 located on the fourth floor of Building 13 \u2013 works to enhance student learning and enrich the Miami Valley\u2019s cultural landscape, according to the Sinclair Arts department\u2019s Web site on sinclair.edu.<\/p>\n<p>Gallery Coordinator Pat McClelland has been in charge of Sinclair\u2019s art galleries since 2005 and said the art department tries to keep them very diverse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work we have in (The Triangle Gallery) now is very traditional painting, but in February there will be an installation artist who\u2019s doing this contemporary, high-tech group project,\u201d McClelland said. \u201cAt times we\u2019ll have traditional sculpture in there, abstract drawings. We really try to mix it up as much as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recently opened, the Zone VI Photography Gallery is displaying \u201cHinterland\u201d<em> <\/em>by Shelley Murney.<\/p>\n<p>Merriam-Webster.com defines hinterland as a region remote from urban areas or a region lying beyond major metropolitan or cultural areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe landscapes I am drawn to are, by their nature, worn, generally containing abandoned or deteriorating forms. I am interested in these places because in ways, they inform me about my cultural identity, who I am, and where I fit into the world,\u201d Murney said in her artist statement that is on showcase along with her art.<\/p>\n<p>McClelland also said the gallery is one of the better learning tools for Sinclair\u2019s art majors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a chance (for students) to see what contemporary artists are doing. It\u2019s a chance for students to compare their work to work by professional, established artists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Quentin Gadbis, an automotives major, said he visits the Building 13 galleries twice a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp here, you learn a lot of things that you never knew,\u201d Gadbis said. \u201cYou realize how art is all around you no matter where you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Service Box info<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Art gallery viewing hours:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mon-Thurs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interested in viewing art?
