{"id":31833,"date":"2021-04-14T14:30:06","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T19:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=31833"},"modified":"2021-04-14T14:30:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T19:30:06","slug":"sinclairs-own-horrific-author-tim-waggoner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2021\/04\/14\/sinclairs-own-horrific-author-tim-waggoner\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinclair&#8217;s Own Horrific Author: Tim Waggoner"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timwaggoner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Waggoner<\/a> has two passions: writing terrifying fiction and helping other writers improve their craft.&nbsp; He teaches English and Creative Writing at Sinclair Community College.&nbsp; The author of over 50 novels and numerous short stories, mostly in the horror and dark fiction genres; his latest novel <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Your-Suffer-Fiction-Without-Frontiers-ebook\/dp\/B08CVSNW16\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=your+turn+to+suffer&amp;qid=1617847751&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cYour Turn to Suffer\u201d<\/a> was released last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The novel is about a woman who is told by a mysterious figure in a grocery store that she must atone for her sins or suffer the consequences, but she has no idea what the figure is referring to.&nbsp; \u201cBit by bit, they start dismantling her life,\u201d Waggoner said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His previous book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Writing-Dark-Tim-Waggoner-ebook\/dp\/B08GCZ6GK9\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=writing+in+the+dark&amp;qid=1617847926&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cWriting in the Dark,\u201d<\/a> has recently been nominated for the Bram Stoker award, which is the premier award for horror.&nbsp; It\u2019s a nonfiction guide to writing horror and dark fantasy and it draws on Waggoner\u2019s own experience as a writer.&nbsp; \u201cIt was easy to write,\u201d he said,&nbsp; \u201cIt all just poured out of me.\u201d&nbsp; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebramstokerawards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waggoner\u2019s fiction has won the prestigious Stoker award in the past<\/a>, but this is the first time he\u2019s been nominated for nonfiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He describes \u201cWriting in the Dark\u201d as the culmination of many years of teaching and advising students.&nbsp; The book\u2019s release coincided with a bevy of interviews on podcasts and in print.&nbsp; \u201cI wanted to reach as many people as possible because my mission was to help writers,\u201d he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"31838\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2021\/04\/14\/sinclairs-own-horrific-author-tim-waggoner\/attachment\/writing-in-the-dark\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/writing-in-the-dark.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"175,263\" data-comments-opened=\"0\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"writing-in-the-dark\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/writing-in-the-dark.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/writing-in-the-dark.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/writing-in-the-dark.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31838\" width=\"302\" height=\"454\"\/><figcaption>(Source: Tim Waggoner)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Although \u201cWriting in the Dark\u201d involved a large amount of publicity work, sometimes Waggoner\u2019s book releases come with none at all. He\u2019s not allowed to talk about his upcoming movie novelization until the release date for the film is announced.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost like knowing the future in a way,\u201d he said.&nbsp; \u201cI was really excited to do it.&nbsp; It was a bucket list item.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to novels and nonfiction, Waggoner also writes short stories.&nbsp; Several of his tales will be featured in upcoming anthologies.&nbsp; He said that at this point in his career, he usually already knows where things will be published when he writes them.&nbsp; \u201cBetween the novels I do and the short stories, I don\u2019t have a lot of time to write ones that don\u2019t already have a home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the staggering volume of novels and short stories he\u2019s written, Waggoner hasn\u2019t lost his passion for the written word.&nbsp; He said the most important factor in deciding whether or not to write something is, \u201cif it sounds like fun.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He credits his position at Sinclair with affording him the flexibility to write projects he\u2019s excited about.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWriting does bring in an income, but since it\u2019s not my only source of income, I don\u2019t have to worry as much about how much it pays,\u201d he said,&nbsp; \u201cotherwise I\u2019d have to write very commercial fiction all the time and I\u2019d always have to think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waggoner has helped many students pursue their passion for writing.&nbsp; It\u2019s wonderful to hear that teaching at Sinclair has enabled him to do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MacKenzie Tastan<br><\/strong>Reporter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Waggoner has two passions: writing terrifying fiction and helping other writers improve their craft.&nbsp; He teaches English and Creative Writing at Sinclair Community College.&nbsp; The author of over 50 novels and numerous short stories, mostly in the horror and dark fiction genres; his latest novel \u201cYour Turn to Suffer\u201d was released last week.
