Gen. Qassim Suleimani<\/a>, resulted in zero American or Iraqi casualties, both the U.S and Iran have announced that no further attacks are to be expected.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after the missile strike on the American-occupied Iraqi bases, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated on Twitter that \u201cWe do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression,\u201d and that \u201cIran took &amp; concluded proportionate measures in self-defense\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Iran took &amp; concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens &amp; senior officials were launched.<br><br>We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression.<\/p>&mdash; Javad Zarif (@JZarif) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JZarif\/status\/1214736614217469953?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption>Iran&#8217;s foreign minister responds on Twitter after the bombing of American-occupied bases in Iraq. (Source: @JZarif \/ Twitter)<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During a speech Wednesday morning, Trump said that in response to the attacks, further economic sanctions would be imposed on Iran but he assured that no military action will take place, saying that \u201cThe United States is ready to embrace peace with all who seek it.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, tensions still remain after this apparent cease-fire. On Thursday morning, in an effort to keep Trump\u2019s military power in check in order to avoid further conflict, the House led a vote to require the president to receive congressional approval before engaging in any further&nbsp; escalation with Iran. The vote was approved by 224 to 194 in the Democrat-led House.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republican members of Congress were soured by the measure, with some of them characterizing the restriction on Trump\u2019s military strength as \u201cdangerous\u201d and \u201cunpatriotic.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c&#8230;The introduction of this resolution,\u201d said Rep.
