There were so many things that had to be settled before we even started season four.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duo pushed for the renewal to ensure job security and to justify putting their sole focus on the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other news regarding \u201cRick and Morty,\u201d <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"J. Michael Mendel (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/j-michael-mendel-dead-dies-rick-and-morty-the-simpsons\/\" target=\"_blank\">J. Michael Mendel<\/a>, a four-time Emmy-winning producer of the series, passed away at the age of 54 on Sept. 22, 2019. He was a substantial part of the show&#8217;s production from its beginning in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy friend, partner, and line producer Mike Mendel passed away,\u201d Roiland tweeted following his death. \u201cI am devastated. My heart breaks for his family. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m going to do without you by my side Mike. I\u2019m destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t handle seeing his cropped photo in headlines with the word dead in them,\u201d Harmon wrote on Instagram. \u201c&#8230;I took Mike for granted. He was always needed and he was always there. He\u2019s going to be needed tomorrow and he won\u2019t be there.
