{"id":24405,"date":"2019-06-11T14:00:23","date_gmt":"2019-06-11T19:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=24405"},"modified":"2019-06-11T08:45:09","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T13:45:09","slug":"how-is-sinclair-contributing-to-dayton-tornado-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2019\/06\/11\/how-is-sinclair-contributing-to-dayton-tornado-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"How is Sinclair Contributing to Dayton Tornado Recovery?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the evening of May 27, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/local\/2019\/05\/29\/may-27th-tornadoes-wreak-havoc-in-dayton\/\">Dayton was rocked<\/a> by a storm of biblical proportions. \u00a0Eighteen tornadoes ravaged Riverside, Trotwood and Beavercreek, among other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\tThousands of citizens were affected, losing access to power and water, and facing massive damage to their homes and property (if not losing their home altogether).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A plethora of local businesses and individuals have come together to support the victims, and it has been a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2019\/06\/01\/dayton-bands-together-in-wake-of-destructive-tornadoes\/\">rallying point for the city<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; With this the business division collected supplies and put together over 550 food boxes and snack bags to distribute to victims, containing sustenance for those that may have lost everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/SinclairCC\/status\/1136022603703996422\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercer later established the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, converting the entire lobby of building 20 into a response center and giving aid to local residents. Volunteers from across the U.S. have offered their service to the cause as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\tJohnson explained the philosophy behind creating the center and what they plan to accomplish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to create systems that are somebody else\u2019s jobs,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThere\u2019s already Red Cross and FEMA&#8230; we\u2019re just trying to fill gaps because people will fall in the cracks.
