(Eva Rinaldi \/ Flickr) <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> Yes, I\u2019m talking about <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Halloween (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/halloween\/history-of-halloween\" target=\"_blank\">Halloween<\/a>. You see, starting this week we are officially twenty-five weeks from Halloween, and as part of an ongoing series for The Clarion, I wanted to share with you a list of some of the best, forgotten, beloved, frightening horror films to ever be set to celluloid as a way of celebrating the best holiday the year has to offer and as a countdown to that holiest of holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\tOn top of that, I\u2019ll provide my take on each film and some background info, and who knows, maybe as this evolves I\u2019ll provide breakdowns of each film\u2019s best moments. But the intent of this will be to provide you, fellow Halloween fans, with a half a year\u2019s worth of movies to get you ready and to make every day feel like Halloween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\tStarting off, I\u2019ll open up with one of my favorites and one of the more popular horror films in the entire genre\u2019s pantheon, but don\u2019t worry, I fully intend to write about the obscure and unknown films. Directed by famed American born, British import, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Stanley Kubrick (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000040\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stanley Kubrick<\/a>\u2014master filmmaker with credits including a Nabokov adaptation in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"\u201cLolita,\u201d (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/filmdaily.co\/obsessions\/why-kubricks-lolita-is-a-lot-better-than-you-might-think\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cLolita,\u201d<\/a> the genesis for the modern science fiction film, penned by a legend in the genre in Arthur C. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/new\/Stephen-King-Just-Went-Off-About-How-Much-He-Hates-Shining-Again-68032.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;misogynistic.&#8221;<\/a> ( Pinguino Kolb \/ Flickr)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> On top of that, Kubrick\u2019s film, was nominated for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevintagenews.com\/2016\/09\/13\/shining-initially-terrible-reception-nominated-couple-razzie-awards-including-worst-director-worst-actress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" two Razzies (opens in a new tab)\"> two Razzies<\/a> (short for Golden Raspberry Awards, a yearly award show given to the perceived worst films in a given year), one for his direction and one for Shelly Duvall\u2019s acting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a little-known fact that, despite the film\u2019s gargantuan reputation as a horror staple, it was critically panned at the time of its release and seen as a glaring blemish in the director\u2019s until then stellar career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Despite its initial pallid response, the film has grown into one of the genre\u2019s most beloved and most classic examples of the artistic capacity inherent within its class, sitting alongside some of the earliest examples of the genre, found in the German Expressionist <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"\u201cNosferatu\u201d (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/mentalfloss.com\/article\/84080\/11-nightmarish-facts-about-nosferatu\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cNosferatu\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"\u201cThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,\u201d (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tcm.com\/this-month\/article\/443507%7C87713\/The-Cabinet-of-Dr-Caligari.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,\u201d<\/a> and stretching to modern day pastiche in former funnyman, Jordan Peele\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"\u201cGet Out\u201d (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DzfpyUB60YY\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cGet Out\u201d<\/a> and the Ari Aster skin-peeler in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V6wWKNij_1M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"\u201cHereditary.\u201d (opens in a new tab)\">\u201cHereditary.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\tKubrick\u2019s King adaptation has proved that much like many a great film, the greatness of a story is in its endurance, and how it faces the ever-changing cultural upheavals in the genre and in the medium\u2014a truly great story grows and blossoms like the finest of wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center;
