{"id":2227,"date":"2009-09-03T12:39:33","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T17:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/?p=2227"},"modified":"2017-06-20T10:31:32","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T15:31:32","slug":"singing-plants-and-special-effects-make-production-unique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2009\/09\/03\/singing-plants-and-special-effects-make-production-unique\/","title":{"rendered":"Singing plants and special effects make production unique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Students have a musical they can look forward to this fall complete with secret love, doo-wop and . . . singing plants?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The theatre department is presenting the musical \u201cLittle Shop of Horrors\u201d this fall.<span> <\/span>Production Specialist Dan Libecap said the plants make the production unique because \u201cthe plants grow throughout the play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The star plant, Audrey II, is actually a large puppet rented from Wright State University, according to Libecap.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cA lot of puppetry is very similar to (the 1986 movie),\u201d Libecap said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Libecap is hoping to premiere a special effect that he believes has never been done before.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to make it bigger and better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Libecap has researched the effect, and he believes that it can work.<span> <\/span>However, more building and testing is required before it can be presented to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cExpect anything from all sides, and that\u2019s all I can say,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The play is a great mix of horror, comedy and musical, according to Libecap.<span> <\/span>He believes the play is a lot of fun, especially around Halloween.<span> <\/span>People who have never seen the show will often claim it as one of their favorites after they\u2019ve seen it, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s just such an odd and fun show,\u201d Libecap said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The musical is one of three plays scheduled for this year\u2019s theatrical season.<span> <\/span>One classical piece, \u201cAntigone,\u201d and one contemporary piece, \u201cDog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead,\u201d fill the remaining roster, according to Marketing Manager Patti Celek.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cLittle Shop of Horrors\u201d stars James Roselli and Tracie Puckett as Seymour and Audrey, co-workers at a skid-row florist shop.<span> <\/span>Joshua Scales will voice the star plant, Audrey II.<span> <\/span>Puppeteers have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tickets can be purchased online or at the Blair Hall box office one week before the event.<span> <\/span>To purchase tickets online, <a title=\"Buy theatre tickets here!\" href=\"http:\/\/brushfire.e-vent.info\/Events\/Sinclair\/Start.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students have a musical they can look forward to this fall complete with secret love, doo-wop and . . . singing plants?
