A few weeks ago, I wrote a column about everything I wanted to do before I transferred from Sinclair Community College. Well, I was able to cross two of those items off of the list.<\/p>\n
One of the items was Spring Fling.<\/p>\n
I hadn’t attended Spring Fling last year because I was in class, but this year I wanted to support something that I think is good for Sinclair-as a reporter, I was also required to cover it.<\/p>\n
With the weather not being agreeable, Spring Fling was forced into the basement of Building 8.<\/p>\n
I was shocked to see a plethora of tables set up as I was walking to the Clarion newsroom, which is located behind the Tartan Cantina in Building 8. I couldn’t believe that they were able to fit-and I use the term “fit” loosely-an inflatable boxing rink, dj booth, karaoke, henna tattoos and much more on such a short notice.<\/p>\n
And in my opinion, it turned out well.<\/p>\n
I learned three things at Spring Fling.<\/p>\n
I have the posture of a broom<\/strong><\/p>\n The Physical Therapist Association’s station allowed students to spin a wheel that would choose an activity for the student to perform. I spun the wheel and it landed on a spot where the PTA members chose the activity I performed.<\/p>\n They decided that they wanted to see how well my posture was.<\/p>\n I was kind of worried about passing the posture test because I always hunched over my desk as a kid.<\/p>\n For the test, one of the PTA members stood on a stool and pushed down on my shoulders while I stood up straight.<\/p>\n I was then informed that I had perfect posture. Yay! One portion of Spring Fling was when they did the “Spring Fling Shuffle,” which led to the “Cupid Shuffle,” and eventually the classic “Cha-Cha Slide.” After about nine years, people still have the urge to get to the dance floor and do the “Cha-Cha Slide.”<\/p>\n Wow.<\/p>\n Karaoke is (kind of) frightening<\/strong><\/p>\n The latter part of Spring Fling featured a karaoke contest. I’m no Usher, but I felt compelled to embarrass myself, so I signed up for the contest. The song I “performed” was “Killing Me Softly” by The Fugees. The experience wasn’t too bad, but I was as nervous as a cow at a barbeque. I don’t know who voted-they should be put in an asylum-because, incredibly, I finished in third place.<\/p>\n Which is, quite possibly, the highlight of my time here at Sincla<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A few weeks ago, I wrote a column about everything I wanted to do before I transferred from Sinclair Community College.
