Have you ever wanted to write a screenplay?<\/p>\n
A screenwriting class will be offered this summer at Sinclair Community College, taught by Rebecca Morean, an associate professor of English and director of Sinclair\u2019s annual creative writing contest.<\/p>\n
Morean, author of three screenplays and In the Dead of Winter (St. Martin\u2019s Press), developed the class when she saw a need for it at Sinclair. The class watches YouTube clips and listens to director\u2019s commentary on feature films as part of the curriculum.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can learn a lot about filmmaking by listening to the actors,\u201d said Morean.<\/p>\n
The class features four major projects. Students learn to write a screenplay for a training video first. Many training projects are humorous, according to Morean. Past classes have watched training videos by British actor John Cleese.<\/p>\n
Students choose a subject for a short documentary for their second project. For their third project, students make an adaptation of a chosen song, book, game or other medium. Finally students write a screenplay of an original idea.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe work fast and furious,\u201d said Morean.<\/p>\n
Morean encourages people who want to write screenplays to get involved with local access stations, acting groups and others in the community with similar interests<\/p>\n
The screenwriting class is available for registration now.\u00a0 The class, named ENG 297, will be held during the Summer B term starting July 22 and ending Aug. 25. Class times are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.<\/p>\n
