\u00a0 \u00a0Sinclair\u2019s Women\u2019s Basketball team is halfway through the season, and they are on track to to make it to the championship.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0So far they have won 13 out of their 15 regular season games, and are currently on a 12 game winning streak.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0In the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) standings Sinclair is tied for second place with Owens Community College, the 3-time defending champions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0This month is pivotal for the team with multiple big games against other teams in the conference. This includes the home game this Wednesday, Jan. 10, against Owens at 5:30 pm, and on the 20th they face Edison Community College for the first time this season, who is number one in the standings and undefeated so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"DSC_0321\"\u00a0 \u00a0Many of the players are already being scouted, and Victoria Jones, head coach for the team, said that it\u2019s because \u201cwe have built a culture where people nationally are respecting our program.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0Jones says that part of the reason they have had such a great season so far is that the team has been \u201cplaying faster, with balanced scoring.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0She added that Amanda Schroeder, a power forward on the team, is one of the top scorers in the nation with an average of 26.7 points per game, and \u201cbecause she scores so much sometimes people lose sight of the other four or five that may be scoring too, which makes it difficult for our opponents because they don\u2019t know who\u2019s going to show up any given night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0A downfall of many teams is that they focus too much on the future games, especially the championship.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cI pride myself on teaching my players one game at a time, and I think that method helps us,\u201d Jones said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0Sinclair\u2019s athletic department doesn\u2019t just focus on athletics, though. Academics is one of their top priorities, and as Jones said, \u201cwe pride ourselves on academics, we do five day study halls, which has made us one of the better teams in GPA as far as junior colleges is concerned.\u201d At the end of the fall semester, Schroeder had a 3.9 GPA, putting her on track to be First Team All Conference. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0There is still half of the season left, so anything can happen. However, with the team\u2019s current momentum it will be very hard for them to be knocked out of the running for the championship.<\/span><\/p>\n
