Theatre veteran and director Nelson Sheeley is holding auditions for his fall production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”<\/p>\n
Auditions for the musical spoof will be held on Tuesday, May 19, in Building 2, Room 2L12 at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Sheeley said he is looking for a one-minute monologue and a 16-bar song in the auditions. “It should obviously be a comic monologue,” he said.<\/p>\n
Sheeley and musical director John Faas will judge the auditions, along with a student advocate. Sheeley and Faas previously worked together in the Sinclair Community College production “Something’s Afoot.”<\/p>\n
“I’m looking for the acting and (Faas) is looking for the music,” Sheeley said. “We go through everybody and compare notes on who we think would be the best candidate for the roles.”<\/p>\n
Though the auditions are open to the public, Sheeley would like to see the roles go to students.<\/p>\n
“We’re doing it for the students, so they always get the preference,” he said.<\/p>\n
Sheeley has directed more than 200 shows and is an adjunct faculty member at Sinclair. “Little Shop of Horrors” marks his fifth production at Sinclair.<\/p>\n
“Little Shop of Horrors” is scheduled to run from October 16-24. Students can schedule auditions by calling (937) 512-4580.<\/p>\n
“I would encourage anybody who can carry a tune to audition,” Sheeley said. “This isn’t a show where you have to have a legitimate Broadway voice. If you can carry a tune and act, they should give it a whirl.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
