If you\u2019re looking for a musical that\u2019s been called \u201cexuberantly silly\u201d (The New York Times), \u201chilariously funny\u201d (New York Post) and was billed as \u201cthe feel-good musical of the year\u201d when it first premiered, then get ready for Sinclair Theater\u2019s version of \u201cThe Toxic Avenger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sinclair\u2019s Theater Company will be presenting an outrageous musical comedy with an environmental twist, \u201cThe Toxic Avenger,\u201d in Blair Hall from April 7 to April 15.<\/p>\n

\"\"Chris Harmon will direct this rock musical with musical direction by David McKibben.\u00a0 <\/span>It will star Thomas Puckett, Courtney Kakac, Sha-lemar Davis, Elisha Chamberlin, Elisa Fuentes and Justin Lampkins.<\/p>\n

The show, which deviates some from the original film, is about a meek, mild-mannered \u201cgeek\u201d and aspiring earth scientist named Melvin Ferd the Third who lives in Tromaville, New Jersey.\u00a0 <\/span>Tromaville has been plagued with barrels of toxic waste appearing all over town, polluting the environment.\u00a0 <\/span>Melvin vows to find out who is behind this, but many, including his friend and crush, blind town librarian Sarah, think he\u2019s crazy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Toxic Avenger,\u201d which originally premiered in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 2008 before being moved to Off-Broadway and then a U.S. tour, was written by Joe DiPietro and Bon Jovi\u2019s David Bryan (who both also co-wrote the Tony Award winning \u201cMemphis\u201d), and is based on the 1984 cult classic film of the same name, which was created and directed by Lloyd Kaufman.<\/p>\n

Sinclair Theater will be showing \u201cThe Toxic Avenger\u201d from April 7 to April 15. They are describing it as \u201cA toxic love story with an environmental twist based on cult indie films! Not suitable for children or the faint of heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

The play follows \u201cA Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u201d and \u201cA Song for Coretta,\u201d which the theater put on earlier in the year. At the end of the Spring semester and beginning of the Summer semester, the department will have a \u201cMoving Spirits\u201d dance concert that will be directed by Rodney Veal<\/p>\n

Tickets for \u201cThe Toxic Avenger\u201d are $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. The two weekday performances are $10. There will also be two American Sign Language interpreted shows.<\/p>\n
