Rue La Rue is a new cafe dedicated to the \u201cGolden Girls\u201d and actress Rue McClanahan.<\/p>\n
The owner of the cafe, Michael J. LaRue, had met McClanahan in 2001, where they formed a friendship. LaRue co-owns the cafe with McClanahan\u2019s son, Mark Bish.<\/p>\n
Memorabilia that McClanahan had saved from the show is on the walls of the cafe and the dining area is decorated with things such as McClanahan\u2019s Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy, publicity scripts, costumes and McClanahan\u2019s piano.<\/p>\n
On the counter is even a photo of all of McClanahan\u2019s exes.<\/p>\n
\u201cRue used to insist she was nothing like the character Blanche,\u201d LaRue said, \u201cbut that\u2019s why I put the picture of her six husbands over there \u2014 because she was exactly like Blanche.\u201d<\/p>\n
Even the bathroom walls are tiled just like the \u201cGolden Girls\u201d set.<\/p>\n
The cafe is currently in soft-mode opening and it currently only has breakfast and lunch hours, however, they are planning dining hours to come out soon.<\/p>\n
The menu, from chef Michele Weber, includes biscuits with homemade strawberry butter, steamed eggs (made with the wand of an espresso machine), Estelle Getty\u2019s basil-mayo BLT, and \u2014 for fans of Golden Girls \u2014 dishes like the Rusty Anchor clam chowder and a Stan the Putz turkey club.<\/p>\n
CHOCnyc, an Inwood bakery, created a cheesecake in honor of each Girl, and the Bronx Brewery provided two custom beers. There are also signature coffee blends.<\/p>\n
Episodes of the \u201cGolden Girls\u201d play at the cafe on a television screen.<\/p>\n
A sidewalk plaque at the entrance bears Ms. McClanahan\u2019s name and the opening lyrics of the show\u2019s theme song, \u201cThank You for Being a Friend.\u201d Some of her ashes are buried underneath.![\"\"](\"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Golden1.jpg\")

The \u201cGolden Girls\u201d ended 25 years ago on NBC, but Hulu has the rights to air the show exclusively on their website.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s never a time when the \u201cGolden Girls\u201d is not playing on this globe,\u201d LaRue said. \u201cIt taps into something that we all share as human beings \u2014 a fear that as we age we\u2019re going to become irrelevant and alone. The show is a tonic for that fear. It says you can still look good and have sex and have a very full life, with friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
Betty White, the last surviving Golden Girl, has said that she hopes to make it to the cafe sometime in spring.<\/p>\n
