I am responding to your column \u201cHow to be a Cat.\u201d When I come to class, I look forward to picking up The Clarion and reading your column; it usually makes me laugh and brightens up my day. This one, unfortunately, did not have that effect.<\/p>\n
Even if you are whiny, a pain and hateful (and you may not be, I don\u2019t know you), you should realize that attaching these characteristics to all cats is an example of extreme generalization, and shows a major lack of thought.<\/p>\n
I have had cats in my house all my life and love them, but that is not my main point. I wanted to remind you that animals I have known and seen do show love and compassion for their owners. I know elderly people who have a cat, and their cat, in return, gives them warmth and comfort; and this is so very valuable to them.<\/p>\n
Perhaps before you describe a cat as a \u201cgiant butthead that looks cute and fluffy,\u201d you might think twice. In my opinion, you need to realize that this is a college newspaper, and that word choice is inappropriate and shows immaturity.<\/p>\n
