It\u2019s a new year and a new semester at Sinclair! Last year, this column took a look at the presidential election and current events that were happening. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the new semester, I\u2019m going to look at current events of things that are happening in our world and some of the outlandish things people in power do or say.<\/span><\/p>\n

My favorite weapons to use are sarcasm and snarkiness with all things. People in power can do really dumb things at times and I like to point that out using a brand of humor that can only be uniquely identified as my own. I will give you a warning, if I say something that sounds ridiculous, it\u2019s probably sarcasm. <\/span><\/p>\n

For example, Trump and his Twitter account may be a main target this semester. I honestly cannot help it, the man brings it upon himself. I like politics in general, especially when they do really stupid things, which seems to be a lot. With the 2017 political landscape still fairly unknown, it\u2019s bound to be an interesting year and filled with opportunities for me to bring in the sarcasm.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also really like logic. I tend to go for things that sound logical and currently, America is everything but logical. I skate a middle line on a lot of topics because I can see the good and the bad for both sides. Sometimes they both need a good dose of logic so that they can maybe think with clear heads.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have heard several people use one word to describe 2016 – divisive. I think a reason for this is because of our lack of ability to have conversation. Even with people who think different things than we do. So, I want to try and draw us away from that this semester with some sarcasm and logic.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope, if anything, you will see the need for us to talk to each other instead of responding with hate and anger, even when things look bleak. It\u2019s also important to call out people in powerful positions when they do things that are not a good representation of the job they have been chosen to do. We will probably see a lot of that this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, like any journalist, I love feedback. Let me know if you agree or think I\u2019m crazy on any particular topic I will cover. Also, if you have any topic suggestions or things that you would like me to talk about, let me know. I want to write about what matters to you, the reader.<\/span><\/p>\n

This column is about the life we live in and the liberty we have that is sometimes abused or threatened. I hope we can all appreciate those liberties for what they are and understand that we have been given a great privilege to live in a place of freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the meanwhile, let\u2019s make this a great semester and hone into the skill of sarcasm. Welcome to 2017 and to \u201cIn Life and Liberty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
