Those involved will be helping set up and run the carnival as well as help clean up afterward. The volunteers also get to dress up for the event.

The event this year, as in years past, is run by the Counseling and Disabilities Center. Evan Kloth and Ethan Tauscher are in charge of the event and events past.

This year is at a school but the program has gone to many sites. There was a year where participants went out for Habitat for Humanity and built houses. They also have been to the Boys and Girls Club and the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. The program looks for community needs to help. They also look for what they can do for kids in the community.

The tradition did not start on the main campus of Sinclair, rather it began in Huber Heights and Englewood. The day of service does not always fall on the national day.

“We look for a community need and that’s what Sinclair has always stood for in everything it does,” Kloth said. The goal is not only to give back and better lives but to “give students the college experience beyond academia,” according to Kloth. They want students to learn how to be stewards to their community beyond graduation.

Anyone can volunteer and if you cannot volunteer there is an opportunity to donate candy. The tubs are posted around the school and you can donate up until the weekend of the service day.

The event will be held at Northview High School on October 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Justus Hayes
Reporter

National Make a Difference Day is the second largest day of service of the year.
