The first step might be to pick up a copy of \u201cFlights,\u201d the Literary Journal of Sinclair Community College. Featuring artwork from Sinclair Professor Mark Echtner, the newest edition of \u201cFlights\u201d will be available on campus soon.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From beginnings in the mid-70\u2019s, \u201cFlights\u201d has been a yearly publication featuring a wide variety of poetry; fiction, creative nonfiction as well as the annual cover art.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by retired faculty Ed Davis, \u201cFlights\u201d has been edited by a succession of English Department faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Current Editor of \u201cFlights,\u201d Kathryn Geiselman, described the breakdown of published work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy vision is to have about a third of the pieces in the magazine come from Sinclair-affiliated students, faculty, and staff; about a third from local people or those with a connection to the Miami Valley area; and about a third from far and wide,\u201d Geiselman said.<\/p>\n<p>However, that is not always the case according to Geiselman. \u201c We don\u2019t always have that balance in our submission queue. The most underrepresented group is NOT established writers from all over the country; it\u2019s Sinclair folks. Fiction work of any genre is to be any length from 50 words to 5,000. Poetry is to be on any subject, but no more than 70 lines\u2014no greeting card verse. Creative non-fiction essay submissions will be accepted up to 5,000 words. \u201cFlights\u201d asks that cover art submissions be publication-quality.
