\"Cuckoo<\/a>The Sinclair production is here. The production\u2019s first show will be April 8 at 8 p.m. and\u00a0you can check online through Sinclair with the \u201cStudent Life\u201d tab and then \u201cTheatre\u00a0Productions\u201d to find the rest of the schedule. Patti Celek, marketer and advertiser for the\u00a0production, said that arriving between an hour before the show is a way for you to\u00a0guarantee a ticket and a chance to actually get in and see the show. No last minute tickets\u00a0\u2014 if you arrive five minutes before the show, you\u2019ve already missed your chance and the\u00a0doors will have closed.<\/p>\n

For the majority of the times (except Wednesdays and Thursdays) the price will\u00a0be $18.00 ($15.00 with your Tartan card). On \u201cThrowback Thursdays,\u201d the price for all\u00a0tickets will be dropped to $10.00. You can purchase tickets online (through the Sinclair\u00a0\u201cBrush Fire App\u201d) or pay at the door. They take cards and cash.\u00a0On Wednesday the 13 at 10:00 a.m. the price will be dropped all the way down to\u00a0$5.00 with a Tartan card.<\/p>\n

The play is based on the book written in 1962 by Ken Kasey. The play shortly\u00a0followed in 1963 and then later a movie in 1967 starring Jack Nicholson. The play is set\u00a0in the \u201860s about a mental ward in Oregon with a strict nurse (Nurse Ratched) who runs a\u00a0tight ship. The protagonist (Randle McMurphy) arrives as a patient who stirs up the pot\u00a0and causes trouble, yet ends up gaining the devotion of the other patients.<\/p>\n

Director of the play, Nelson Sheeley, said all the actors in the play have\u00a0experience in acting in at least one play previously.\u00a0What\u2019s the play\u2019s message to the audience? Neeley said, \u201cI think it\u2019s basically\u00a0about freedom \u2014 and gaining one\u2019s freedom from whatever prison you happen to be in.\u201d\u00a0The inspiration for the title actually appears in the play. It\u2019s an old child\u2019s game\u00a0from a poem that\u2019s an analogy for the story. \u201cOne flew east, one flew west, one flew over\u00a0the cuckoo\u2019s nest,\u201d which resembles the protagonist who seeks freedom from the mental\u00a0ward.<\/p>\n

\"Cuckoo<\/a>Both Patti and Sheeley pointed out the diversity in their cast. They said the cast is\u00a0purely chosen based on talent; ethnic background never comes into play with their\u00a0decision making process. That being the case, the talent actually happens to be quite\u00a0diverse in this production with a large range of backgrounds. It certainly makes for an\u00a0interesting and unique cast.\u00a0Sheeley said that the cast has bonded with one another which is suiting because\u00a0the storyline for the play has bonding between the patients. Sheeley said the only\u00a0choreography was for certain fight scenes so they can come across as natural, believable,\u00a0and of course are safe.<\/p>\n

Sheeley teaches acting at Sinclair and said, \u201cI usually direct a play here at least\u00a0once a year.\u201d Sheeley said he has directed professionally for almost forty years. Sheeley\u00a0and Celek point out that with Sinclair, the cast has better opportunities for receiving\u00a0varying parts where four-year colleges tend to be more difficult and strenuous to be on\u00a0stage. Celek said that gives students a good chance to discover if they have a talent for\u00a0the stage.<\/p>\n

High expectations are now placed on the play, hopefully you can be one to attend\u00a0and witness its production for yourself.<\/p>\n
