Joining a college club or organization allows students to discover their passions and strengths. One of Sinclair\u2019s active student clubs is the Muslim Student Association, or MSA, whose purpose is to provide an environment for the development and networking of Muslims on campus while fostering a sense of community between Muslims and non-Muslims through education.

The president, the adviser and co-adviser of MSA share the same excitement about the events they host every year.
\n\u201cOne of our favorite events we host annually would be Hijab Day,\u201d said MSA President Khalid Almahdoji. \u201cThis event brings knowledge to non-Muslims of what the hijab actually means. To some, the headscarf is a symbol of religious belief in beauty through modesty. Every year on Feb. 1 MSA encourages non-Muslims and Muslims who don’t normally wear a hijab to try it out. The Arabic word hijab refers not just to a headscarf but also to modest dress and behavior in general.\u201d
\nAnother notable event hosted by MSA is the annual appreciation luncheon.
\n\u201cWe provide lunch, presentations to campus organizations, and just get people together to share a meal and to learn about some of the Muslim faith,\u201d said advisor Abdullah Johnson. \u201cThis [is something] we have done annually, serving over 50 guests.\u201d
\n\u201cMSA is a place to meet new people, Muslims and non-Muslims, in a friendly atmosphere,\u201d Johnson said.
\nAngela Griffin, who is also an MSA adviser, added: \u201cWe work hard to dispel stereotypes about Islam and Muslims.\u201d<\/p>\n
