{"id":10476,"date":"2014-10-21T13:28:25","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T18:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=10476"},"modified":"2014-10-21T13:28:25","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T18:28:25","slug":"trash-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2014\/10\/21\/trash-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Trash on Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The fall semester rush is beginning to wind down, just as trash and litter on campus is beginning to pick up.<\/p>\n<p>Graeme Crothall &amp; Associates (GCA) Service Group is the contracted cleaning company responsible for keeping Sinclair\u2019s campus at its best.<\/p>\n<p>Adrienne Dates, the first shift supervisor of GCA, said she believes campus is pretty clean, but students can do better at throwing their trash away.<\/p>\n<p>After working for GCA for four years, come January, Dates said the first few weeks of the new school year is always the worst.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have even more students here now than we\u2019ve had in the past couple years,\u201d Dates said. \u201cSo the first two weeks of class<br \/>\nI thought were going to be very hectic, but they turned out to be very calm.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Dates said graffiti has also been a recurring problem on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe chase graffiti a whole lot. Around this time when all the students come back, they\u2019re running around in the bathrooms putting up the abortion things and we have to take the graffiti remover and clean it off&#8230; They write everywhere; on the bricks, in the elevators,\u201d said Dates.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Jones is a current student who also works as second shift supervisor with GCA. He said that trash on campus isn\u2019t a huge problem, but it can be better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m neutral, I can say, because I know how it is to live the student life when you\u2019re on the go constantly,\u201d Jones said. \u201cYou always have something going on. Then I can understand the working life aspect of it. It\u2019s like \u2018ugh, I have to clean up after someone else\u2019 but it is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>There are steps that students can take to keep campus cleaner such as cleaning up behind oneself, picking up wayward trash, and making sure lunch trays, trash and recyclables make it to the proper receptacle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know its busy being a student because I am a student myself. so<br \/>\nI understand, but if you could be a little more mindful of what you do, you know, where you lay your trash and different things.
