{"id":10318,"date":"2014-09-23T11:54:12","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T16:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=10318"},"modified":"2014-09-23T12:05:18","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T17:05:18","slug":"pride-and-prejudice-fall-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2014\/09\/23\/pride-and-prejudice-fall-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Pride and Prejudice Fall Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Sinclair\u2019s Theater department is presenting a production of Pride &amp; Prejudice during the weekends of September 26 until October 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c The story of Pride and Prejudice is a romantic comedy that was originally written at the end of the seventeenth century&#8230; but the story is really modern,\u201d Kimberly Borst, assistant professor in the theater department.<\/p>\n<p>The casting for Pride &amp; Prejudice happened at the end of last spring semester.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe work five days a week&#8230; there\u2019s a whole huge team of people to make something like this get on its feet&#8230; we have been working on this all summer,\u201d said Borst.<\/p>\n<p>Borst said she knows who is going to audition, theater students must audition, but she does not know who is going to take on different roles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u201cI am beyond excited about it, \u201c Borst said in response to her opinion of the cast for Pride &amp; prejudice.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ariqa Bowens, Theater Major, was cast in the role of Elizabeth Bennet, the protagonist of pride and prejudice.<\/p>\n<p>She said that she has acted in seven to eight other productions but that this is her first main role in a production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have never worked this hard not only to get a part but to maintain it to make the character clear. So they [the audience] can get a clear picture who Elizabeth is,\u201d said Bowens.<\/p>\n<p>Ariqa Bowens, Theater Major, was cast in the role of Elizabeth Bennet, the protagonist of pride and prejudice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>She said that she has acted in seven to eight other productions but that this is her first main role in a production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have never worked this hard not only to get a part but to maintain it to make the character clear. So they [the audience] can get a clear picture who Elizabeth is,\u201d Bowens said.<\/p>\n<p>She said she would love to further her acting career, saying that Elizabeth and her are very similar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u201cElizabeth Bennet, she\u2019s very head strong she opinionated &#8230; she\u2019s tough under a pretty face&#8230; But she does have a soft side, she has a really good heart,\u201d Bowens said.<\/p>\n<p>First time actor Shawn Diggs plays the role of Mr. Darcy, The reserved love interest of Elizabeth Bennet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my first play&#8230; it\u2019s been a good experience,&#8221; Diggs Said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Borst and the rest of the cast have been very helpful in his adjustment to the stage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u201cMy cast mates have showed me a lot of love and pointers&#8230; things I could do,\u201d Diggs said.<\/p>\n<p>Diggs said that Mr. Darcy is much different than he is.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Darcy is kind of a tough guy, straight up<br \/>\nand down kind of guy, he doesn\u2019t really have the kind of personality that works well with others,\u201d Diggs said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some things I can pull out of him that I could find, maybe some similarities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Borst said she hopes students will come out and see the production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome see this show it may sound a little bit old fashioned but it\u2019s actually a really contemporary story,\u201d Borst said.<\/p>\n<p>To reserve tickets for Pride &amp; Prejudice, visit www. sinclair.edu\/tickets.
