With “Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy” being a huge success, gamers want more of the older games remastered so they can relive playing their favorite childhood games. Now we’re getting another dose of gaming nostalgia with “Spyro Reignited Trilogy”.

Speculation started stirring after the success of “Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy”. A series of hints and teases followed with the main Twitter account for Spyro tweeting, “Good Times” to Crash Bandicoot’s twitter account with a picture of a Crash costume in what appears to be purple lighting.

Then IGN received a purple scaly egg in the mail with a letter reading “Something’s about to hatch” sent by Falcon McBob, who runs the twitter account for Spyro. After that, it’s been announced that Spyro was making his return.

There were 3 Spyro games released for the original PlayStation: “Spyro the Dragon”, “Spyro 2: Ripto’s rage” and “Spyro: Year of the Dragon” between 1998 and 2000. They were developed by “Insomniac Games”, the same people responsible for the “Ratchet and Clank” series. They’re also developing the new Spider-Man game coming out for the PS4 later this year.

Spyro Egg   What set Spyro apart from other platformers at the time was the unique gameplay mechanics of the time. You don’t just jump from platform to platform, you can breathe fire, glide, roll around and charge at enemies horns first. This was what put “Insomniac games” on the map and made Spyro a household name.

In recent times, Spyro has been with “Skylanders”, the toys-to-life game created by “Toys for Bob”. Now, they will be developing the “Reignited Trilogy” which will include the three original Spyro games. They plan on improving graphics, controls, gameplay mechanics and sound effects. Everything else will be the same as the original in terms of story and characters.

They also plan on getting as much of the original cast as possible in re-recording the voice acting. One of the original voice actors for Spyro, Tom Kenny, will be voice acting Spyro once again for all three remastered games.

“Spyro Reignited Trilogy” will be available for PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s still unknown if it will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch or not. It is set to come out on September 21 but is available for pre-order costing $39.99.

With this trend of remastering old games picking up speed, which old game do you think deserves to be remastered?
