One of the many definitions for balance is “stability produced by even distribution of weight on each side of the vertical axis,” according to Webster’s Dictionary.

Coach Jeff Dillon of the Lady Pride Basketball team, feels his squad is exhibiting those qualities on the offensive side of the court.

“We’re getting a good balance in our scoring,” said Dillon, who’s top two scorers, Sophomores Amanda White and Chelcie Gullet are averaging 16 and 14 points a game, respectively.

During the winter break the Lady Pride went 5-2 and have an overall record of 8-5. Dillon said they have a lot of ground to cover due to 2 games being cancelled because of weather. But, he said that he is proud of the play from his team.

“They have [played with] a lot of grit,” said Dillon.

Recently Gullet, the Lady Pride’s point guard, suffered a high-ankle sprain during practiced and has missed two games. Dillon expects her to be back in action soon, but said that freshman point guard Jana Gross, has really stepped up and is playing well.

“She’s been a real floor leader,” said Dillon. She’s been “an incredible leader since day one” and was voted as one of the Lady Pride’s three team captains with freshman Jessica Pierre and sophomore Alisha Grieves, added Dillon.

The Lady Pride recently began conference play and Dillon said that he hopes to finish up strong in the conference.

Dillon emphasized the team’s ability to withstand adversity and is very pleased with the team he has.

“This is probably the toughest team I’ve ever had,” said Dillon. “They step up and take challenges.”
