Sinclair Community College offers its students many things, including the opportunity to experience the work of current artists through its galleries located in Building 13. The galleries host a variety of exhibitions throughout the quarter featuring a variety of mediums and styles.
“Our primary audience is our students,” said Pat McClelland, the gallery coordinator, “so we try to get a mix of exhibits to benefit them.”
The Triangle Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Building 13 across from the west stairwell, hosts many different exhibitions from drawing and painting to ceramics and video displays. During Winter Quarter, the Triangle Gallery will host three exhibitions:
- January 2 -February 6, work by Mark Echtner, a professor of painting, life drawing, and anatomy at Sinclair. The reception for this exhibition will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on January 8.
- February 17-March 7, The Real Me, multiple self-portraits by Carl Gombert. Gombert’s work will be displayed as part of Sinclair’s REACH conference. The reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on February 26.
- March 17-April 16, mixed media paintings and constructions by Charles Caldemeyer referencing history and art history.
The Zone VI Gallery, located on the third floor of Building 13 in the foyer area, is dedicated to photography exhibitions. During Winter Quarter, three photographers’ work will be on display:
- January 5-February 3, Tricia Zigmund
- February 6-March 10: Sharon Sabin
- March 13-April 15: Stephen Komp
According to McClelland, the artists whose work is displayed in the galleries is selected as the result of a national call for entries. As many as 150 artists respond for consideration for the 16 available slots each year. An Art Department faculty committee reviews each entry, and the top entrants are selected based on a scoring system that ensures both quality and variety.
