In May of 2014, the live-action Disney movie, “Maleficent,” was released exploring the origins of one of the company’s most well known villains.
Now, over six years later, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” was released on Oct. 18, 2019. Although this may seem like a lengthy amount of time, it was originally set to come out on May 29 of 2020, nearly seven months later. So, in reality, fans anticipating the film could consider themselves lucky.
Maleficent is a character from Walt Disney’s 1959 fictional animated film, “Sleeping Beauty.” In this story, she is the evil fairy who tries to curse her goddaughter Princess Aurora’s life forever.
“Maleficent” is a modern re-telling of this classic fairytale. While “Sleeping Beauty” focuses on Princess Aurora’s story, the Maleficent movies put more emphasis on Maleficent’s backstory and her role in the tale.
Angelina Jolie reprises her role as the titular character, as she had always been a fan of the Maleficent character and was overjoyed when she began taking on her role.
Additionally, Elle Fanning returns as Princess Aurora in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” There are also other notable actors and actresses that will be joining the cast this time around.
Michelle Pfeiffer will be introduced in this film as Queen Ingrith, a character which could cause major problems in the moors. A list of the big names in the cast include: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay, Jenn Murray, Kae Alexander, Judith Shekoni, Fernanda Diniz and David Gyasi.
Despite this star-studded cast, one actor won’t return for the sequel. Brenton Thwaites, who played Prince Phillip in the first film, will no longer be playing him. Instead, Clique Davidson will be playing Aurora’s lover, Prince Phillip in the second Maleficent movie.
This new movie picks up a few years after the story of Maleficent and her curse upon Princess Aurora. In “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” Maleficent and her goddaughter begin exploring the mysterious family ties that bring them together. These two have an even more complex relationship than was once thought.
According to sources, there are new alliances and new dangers that threaten the magical creatures in the moors. Some fans even suspect that Maleficent will be going completely evil on the world again – transitioning her into her well-known role as a baddie.
This film has already made its appearance in theaters all across the nation. It promises to entertain audiences, regardless of whether or not they are a big Disney fan or just fond of the series.
