Honors Life

Written By: Zach Gregory When I first got to Sinclair Community College, I had the mindset that many students have, I just wanted to get my work done and get out. Through my brief time writing for the paper and journalism classes I was able to see multiple opportunities available for students at Sinclair. There are more than 30 clubs to join and many activities made available for students. The one thing I regret missing out on is the honors program. When I was working on a story for the honors program... [Read more...]

I remember the day my dad told me to drop out of college. No, he wasn’t crazy. He was actually encouraging me to pursue what I loved more than anything else—writing. He told me I didn’t need to go to school if I wanted to write for a living. I had to just do it and go. So, I took his advice. Well, the first half anyway. I dropped out of Arkansas State University Mountain Home in 2004, right before I got married and moved to Ohio. I didn’t go to college for four years, but more... [Read more...]

It seems to be inevitable that most of us at sometime have or will hear that pesky voice on the other line telling us we have forgot to pay a bill or our bank account has been overdrawn. To make matters worse, the person who conveys this message usually speaks only 10 words of your native language and refuses to provide any compassion to your situation, even if the missed payment was just a minor slip up. They demand your money be given to them right here and right now. What if that other person... [Read more...]

Juice, P-Cubed and I thought we were so cool back in 2005 when we made our debut rap CD. But now when somebody tries to play it around me I have to run out of the room so I don’t die from laughing so hard. We were offbeat, unoriginal and half our rhymes didn’t even rhyme, but we made a MySpace music page for it anyway hoping that all the hot chicks would hear it and want to be our groupies. I would stay up all night acquiring just the right instrumentals for our sinister rhymes. Then P-Cubed... [Read more...]
Setting me straight

Responsibility is an important part of life. Over the past two years, the Clarion has fully brought out this aspect in me. As the Clarion enters its final editions of the year, I began thinking about how my job’s responsibilities have helped mold the guy I am today. I’ve always been a fairly responsible guy: paying bills, eating three meals a day, changing my oil every 3,000 miles. But, it wasn’t until last fall when I realized how stressful being an editor could be. Working in restaurants... [Read more...]
Keeping up with reality

My beautiful and intelligent girlfriend is in love with reality shows, and she isn’t alone by a long shot. Throw in a few washed up or irrelevant celebrities into an “unscripted” show and you now have the makings of a hit primetime series. I just don’t get it. And I don’t think I ever will. I can only shake my head in disgust when my wonderful and caring girlfriend turns on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” or “Giuliana & Bill.” What is the public’s infatuation with celebrities?...
