Dating and relationship secrets unveiled by Sinclair’s “guru”

February 14, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Valentine’s Day has passed, but the work that’s required to keep relationships strong and healthy has not. And if you are not in a relationship, the time is as good as any to start looking. The Clarion recently discussed relationships via e-mail with Sandor Marai, religion and philosophy professor, who also teaches an elective class called “Love, Sex and Relationships.” The rumor around the college is that he is a sort of “guru” on these subjects, but he was quick to correct us; or maybe... [Read more...]

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Student Leadership Association (SLA) will host their annual Valentine’s Day event called “The Dating Game.” “The Dating Game is a game in which one contestant will be seated on one side of a curtain, and would ask questions to three contestants sitting on the other side of the curtain,” Sherita Jackson, SLA assistant, said. “The questions are designed to help the main contestant pick which of the three he or she would like to go on a date with.” While the contestants... [Read more...]

Why can’t video games be considered art?

Are video games art?  I think so.  I think art can be a number of things.  Literature, music, paintings, drawings, graphic design, television, movies, and yes, video games. I can not wait for these first two weeks to be over. The tidal wave of information feels like it collapsed on me and I am going to drown in a sea of syllabuses and homework assignments. Oh, and let’s not forget the mountain of stories I have to write and edit for this paper. Is it just me, or does the beginning of fall quarter make you feel like a bully is trying to beat you up for your lunch money too? S.O.S., please? Honestly, if it wasn’t for some of the great professors and staff here I would... [Read more...]

Musings on pressure and stress

September 14, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Pressure is defined by my gal Merriam as “the burden of physical or mental distress.”  Sound about right? We’re students. We face pressure in a multitude of ways. Classes. Classes bring intense pressure. Pressure to do your homework, to study at home, to pay attention to class. Or even to just show up to class. But outside of school, life gets no easier. What if you have a job? Now you get to juggle work (sometimes a job that doesn’t pay well) with school. Everyone needs... [Read more...]

My Ode to the School Year

September 8, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Math. I just thought I would say something that would bring you back into a school state of mind. Summer is ending, sigh, school is starting and I’m actually ready for the school year. Yes, I said I am ready for the school year. Normally my mindset going into a new year is passive; sometimes I don’t even know when the first day is. Oh and in the past you should of never asked me to try and remember my schedule. “I have a class at 12? Its 12:30 now? Oh.” But ask me those questions now and... [Read more...]
