Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor: This letter is in response to the article that was submitted recently by B.W. Wheeler regarding SLA’s Harvest Day event in last week’s newspaper. I will begin by saying that Wheeler is right about one thing; we were unable to give away free candied apples due to unforeseen last minute changes in the menu. However, we did, in fact, serve free pizza and apple cider. Because of the overwhelming number of students that were present when the event began, we quickly ran out of pizza and... [Read more...]

McClatchy-Tribune News Service (MCT) The following editorial appeared in the San Jose Mercury News on Monday, Nov. 1: America’s smug sense of technological superiority took a hit last week with China’s news that it has built the fastest supercomputer ever made. The Tianhe-1A can make roughly 2,500 trillion calculations per second. We’ll need some engineer to come up with a clever analogy to put that into perspective, but for now, let’s just say it’s really, really fast. Breakthroughs... [Read more...]

After breaking two book bags in a year, Alice Siefker, a student at Sinclair Community College, finally found a roller book bag that holds all of her necessities and does not cause harm to her body. “I am very happy with my roller book bag,” said Siefker. “My back no longer hurts and I am able carry a lot more school stuff.” But other students are not as lucky. Over the years, book bags are getting heavier, according to Billie Sanders, chair of the Exercise, Nutrition and Sports Science Department.... [Read more...]

Dear Editor, In regard to the editorial, “It’s diverse if you’re liberal,” in the November 2 Clarion, I couldn’t disagree more. The idea that colleges and universities are not expressing a conservative perspective is specious. Most universities and colleges are covering a wide swath of viewpoints, from conservative to liberal to socialist to fascist, in the context of classes on history, political science, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and numerous other disciplines.... Adjunct faculty wins award
November 15, 2010 by Adam Adkins · Leave a Comment
Carol Baugh is retiring from some of her duties in December, and she said winning an Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges (OATYC) Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award is a nice way to go out. “Of course it is very flattering,” Baugh said. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years.” Baugh teaches Appalachian Studies and American History at Sinclair Community College. She hasn’t taught at Sinclair for all of those 30 years—she’s also taught at Wright State University and Miami University—but... [Read more...]
