It’s a new decade. Time for a new census and a new batch of controversy. This year there are concerns that the White House will be overseeing the census instead of the Commerce Department. The mere mention of the census director working “closely with White House senior management” has many Republicans crying foul, going so far as to threaten legal action if the president proceeds with his plan. In the biggest advertising day of the year, businesses shell out huge lumps of cash to showcase their products during the largest television event of the year: the Super Bowl. Purchasing a 30-second ad during Super Bowl XLIV cost around $3 million, according to i4u.com. One business that has had a history of spending millions on Super Bowl advertising is Budweiser. Plenty to choose from at the Oscars

On Hollywood’s largest stage, a man named Oscar reigns supreme. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin host the 82nd Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7 on ABC. This marks the first year that the Academy increased its Best Picture nominations to 10 films. “Avatar,” which recently became the highest-grossing film of all-time, and “The Hurt Locker” led all nominations with nine, including Best Picture. Cincinnati Reds pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training on Feb. 18 in Goodyear, Ariz. and I couldn’t be happier. February is a tough month for sports fans. Sure, we have the Super Bowl and the NBA All-Star Game, but not much else. Thankfully, Major League Baseball gets started in April. The Reds have a few battles playing out in Spring Training that will impact the 2010 season. The biggest question marks include left field and the fifth starter.
