Lifeguard Training (PED 232) Taught by veteran lifeguard Nila Peavy, this class teaches students the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Graduates of this course earn lifeguard training, first aid and CPR/AED certificates necessary to become professional lifeguards. Kate Geiger spent 24 years working at the General Motors plant in Moraine. After the plant shut down on Dec. 23, 2008, Geiger enrolled at Sinclair Community College the following spring. “It’s been the most amazing challenge,” Geiger, 45, said about being a student. DCI student makes strides to change his life

As a Sinclair Community College student, William Beyer never thought he would be in the position he now finds himself in. That position, Beyer described, isn’t his status as an inmate at the Dayton Correctional Institute (DCI). And it isn’t how the 43-year-old is nearing the end of his third term in prison. Staying fit and keeping young

As John Murray makes his 30-minute commute to Sinclair Community College, one prominent thought is on his mind: Staying young. At 95 years old, Murray’s daily routine on Sinclair’s campus consists of precision. At 8:25 a.m., Murray leaves his house and hops on the RTA. Murray then heads toward the weight room in Building 8 to loosen up for 15 minutes before making his way to the tennis courts in the Fieldhouse. Design department prepares students for the real world

Hidden among the arts and hospitality departments in Building 13 is Sinclair Community College’s Design Department.  Design Chairperson Shari Rethman said people sometimes are not aware that Sinclair has a design department. “People don’t even realize that we have visual communications and interior design as programs,” she said.
