The Sinclair Athletic Department hopes to break their attendance record on Feb. 10 when the men and women’s basketball teams play a doubleheader against Edison Community College for White Out Wednesday, according to Athletic Director Jack Giambrone. Giambrone said White Out Wednesday started three years ago as a celebration of students and as a way to bring the Sinclair family together. “We wanted a real college atmosphere like you see on TV,” Giambrone said. “We want to share with everyone... [Read more...]

When Lil’ Wayne came to Dayton

If you take a look inside my iPod you’ll find more than 200 songs by rapper Lil’ Wayne. That’s a lot of music for an artist I really didn’t like just three years ago. Back then all I listened to was Eminem and 50 Cent, but that changed when my friend talked me into seeing a Lil’ Wayne concert at Hara Arena on April 5, 2008. At that point in time, Lil’ Wayne was arguably the biggest star in all of music and the $80 ticket, just for a bleacher seat, reflected that. I was a little bit hesitant... [Read more...]

Favre versus Manning would’ve been sweet

January 29, 2010 by Samuel Huist · Leave a Comment

One five-yard penalty for too many men in the huddle cost Brett Favre a trip to the Super Bowl and I’m heartbroken about it. In years past Favre getting eliminated from playoffs wouldn’t have bothered me much because I’ve never been a fan his, but for some reason I found myself rooting for the 40-year-old gunslinger this season. Jason Clardy said he was in the third grade the first time he ever dunked a basketball. It was on a Fisher Price hoop his grandmother gave him. “She gave me a little hoop to play on and the first thing I did was dunk on it,” Clardy said. “After that I just wanted to play ball.” For the past two seasons, Clardy played basketball at Midland College in Texas, Alma Mater to notable NBA players Spud Webb and Mookie Blaylock. The 6-foot-7 Clardy red shirted his first season and came off the bench... [Read more...]

Hidden among the arts and hospitality departments in Building 13 is Sinclair Community College’s Design Department.  Design Chairperson Shari Rethman said people sometimes are not aware that Sinclair has a design department. “People don’t even realize that we have visual communications and interior design as programs,” she said. The design department was originally a part of the art department, Rethman said.  In the early ‘80s the program separated and went through various name changes... [Read more...]

Parking fees don’t cover improvements, expenses

January 29, 2010 by Meagan Ewton · Leave a Comment

Many students wonder why they have to pay for parking, according to Parking Manager Richard Kirkendall.  He said student parking fees do not cover the costs associated with maintaining and operating parking at Sinclair Community College, a fact confirmed by Business Services Director Jeff Miller. “Sinclair’s been very concerned with containing parking expenses for students,” Miller said.  “The expense that students pay does not offset the costs of parking.” Miller said the annual budget... [Read more...]
